Leads the organization’s vision, strategic direction, partnerships and development of attainable homeownership communities.

Maintains board records, meeting minutes and organizational documentation to support transparent governance.

Supports financial oversight, budgeting and responsible stewardship of the organization’s resources.

Founding Board Positions Available
We are currently seeking professionals in three key areas to strengthen our board as Starter Home Initiative develops.
Residential Builder / Construction Professional
Experience with residential construction, building costs, materials, site development, infrastructure or project planning.
Mortgage / Lending Professional
Knowledge of mortgage lending, homeowner qualification, Community Land Trust financing, construction loans or attainable homeownership programs.
Real Estate / Land Acquisition Professional
Experience evaluating land, property values, zoning, site suitability, negotiations or development opportunities.
What a Founding Board Member Helps Do
Board members help guide the organization while contributing insight from their own experience and professional background.
Guide the Organization
Participate in strategic planning, major decisions and thoughtful oversight as Starter Home Initiative grows.
Provide Professional Insight
Help the board understand opportunities, challenges and important considerations related to your field.
Help Build Connections
Identify potential partners, resources, funding opportunities and community relationships that may help advance the mission.
Protect the Mission
Help ensure decisions remain aligned with attainable homeownership, sustainability, community connection and responsible stewardship.
What to Expect
Founding board service is designed to be meaningful without requiring members to personally perform the professional services needed for individual projects.
Meetings
Approximately one board meeting per month during the early development stage, held virtually or in person as appropriate.
Professional Guidance
Members contribute expertise and perspective but are not expected to personally perform licensed or specialized services.
No Required Financial Contribution
Board members are not required to personally fund Starter Home Initiative in order to serve.
Volunteer Service
Founding board service is initially volunteer. Any separate paid professional work would be considered independently.
There Are Other Ways to Contribute
Not everyone who wants to help needs to serve as a voting director. We also welcome advisors, professional resources and community supporters.
Legal & Land-Use Advisors
Guidance related to land, development, nonprofit governance and future community documents.
Gardening & Sustainability Advisors
Help shape community gardens, greenhouse programs, food growing and sustainable landscaping.
Community Supporters
People who believe in attainable homeownership and want to contribute experience, perspective or community connections.
Keeping Board Service Independent
Board membership does not guarantee employment, a construction contract, compensation or future homeownership within a community. Any separate professional or homeowner relationship would be considered independently under applicable policies and program requirements.
